Hungarian students succeed at the Cypriot science fair by recycling clothes

A New York investor was also interested in the presentation of the students from Nyíregyháza.

Kristóf Benő and Dániel Mester, two students from the Széchenyi István Technical School and College of Nyíregyháza, participated in the international sCYence Fair 2024, an annual event organised by The Cyprus Institute for students aged 12-18, with the support of the NIÜ in mid-April.

The boys took a business idea they had developed with several of their fellow students to Cyprus to produce sustainable insulation material by recycling waste clothing and textiles. Their presentation was attended by Philippa Karsera-Christodoulidou, wife of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, and Stavros Malas, President of The Cyprus Institute.

In fact, their ideas and presentation style appealed so much to a New York investor who visited the exhibition that he promised that if the students produced a presentation for potential incubators, he would be happy to look at it and offer suggestions to help them make it investor-friendly.

The students' trip was supported by the NIÜ. The agency aims to attract more young people to STI fields and entrepreneurial careers, thus helping to strengthen the Hungarian researcher supply and start-up ecosystem. Congratulations to the boys for their successful participation!
