Food innovation competition - Ecotrophelia Hungary Budapest 2024

Since 2013, Hungary has hosted the Ecotrophelia food innovation competition for university and college students. The primary objective of the competition is for teams to develop innovative foods while considering ecological aspects such as sustainability, food waste reduction, and the utilization of short supply chains. Moreover, the products must demonstrate commercial potential.
 
Campden BRI Magyarország Nonprofit Kft. has overseen the Hungarian rounds since 2013, representing the international network that administers the competition.
 
The 2024 national round of the competition for university and college students is being organized by Campden BRI Magyarország Nonprofit Kft., in collaboration with Campden BRI UK and facilitated by the National Innovation Agency.
 
University and college teams can express their intention to apply until May 12, 2024!

Submit the completed application form by May 12, 2024!

To confirm participation, submit the signed Declaration of Individual Obligation by the Team Leader, along with the completed Portfolio and Product Description, by June 20, 2024!
 

Program Benefits:

Free participation in the English-language Inspire4Ecotrophelia 12-hour online Entrepreneurship/business development course provided by EIT FOOD, culminating in an EIT Food Inspire for Ecotrophelia certificate.
Attendance is mandatory for international competition participants!
 
Mentorship until the completion of the portfolio.
Participation in the domestic competition.
Inclusion in the international competition at the world's leading food industry exhibition, offering a valuable opportunity to establish connections with foreign students and experts.
The team that secures first place in the Hungarian competition stands to win a prize.
 
Participation in the Ecotrophelia Europe 2024 international competition, to be held at the SIAL exhibition in Paris (travel and accommodation costs covered). Date of the international competition: October 20-21, 2024.

Prizes for the international competition:

Over the years, Hungarian participants have developed numerous innovative solutions, enabling them to compete internationally.
 
In 2013, the Budapest University of Technology and Economics team created a wheat flour-based baking mix product line called GabonArt.
 
In 2014, the University of Technology team represented Hungary in the international final with a live flora yogurt flavored with herbal concentrate.
 
In 2015, Corvinus University students reached the international finals with their vegetable-based sausage named VeSage, winning first prize at the Ecotrophelia Europe finals held at the Universal Expo in Milan.
 
In 2016, Szent István University showcased their healthy snack, Fitstick, made of eggs, milk, and fruits, at the international competition.
 
During 2020-2021, Ecotrophelia addressed the COVID-19 crisis by organizing online events when physical gatherings were not feasible. The competition continued through virtual platforms, allowing participants and judges to connect via Zoom and Skype.

The successes of previous years underscore Hungary's potential to compete among international counterparts, showcasing the innovation of students and their products for the past five years.
